Kip Teitsort will be presenting two lectures during the conference:
Lesson 1: Violence in EMS; is it really an issue?
This exciting 140 minute presentation gives the audience an eye opening and realistic understanding of the violence against EMS issue and what can be done about it.
Objectives: At the end of this presentation the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the large volume of verbal and physical violence directed at EMS
- State the need for training for escaping a violent encounter
- Distinguish what is “reasonable” regarding the use of force in self-defense
- State the need for educators to better prepare students for violence on the job
- State that being a victim of violence is not to be accepted as “part of the job”
Lesson 2: Mental Preparation for the Violent Encounter-It’s as important as any physical skill you may posses
This 140 minute informative and eye opening lecture helps prepare the EMS provider should they find themselves faced with a violent encounter with decision making skills.
Objectives: At the end of this presentation the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the psychological and physiological responses to a violent encounter
- State mental preparation is as important as any physical skill
- Recognize there is a distinct difference between a patient and an attacker
- State the need to practice mental role playing for scene safety
