After seeing the story in the Washington Post I couldn’t help wonder why the rare gets all the news, but the epidemic doesn’t. Being a veteran police officer/paramedic, I too was upset about the arrest. However, I still have something that makes me go hmm…
Nurses have been beaten, stabbed, shot, raped and even MURDERED on the job, yet:
- It barely makes the news, much less national news.
- Staff told it is part of the job
- Often covered up- treated as the dirty little secret
- Very little support among peers, admin, and courts post-attack
Why does the rare incident spark outrage, media attention and outside investigations… but, the epidemic doesn’t?
Here is just a sample of the violence epidemic: In-hospital Violence Compilation Video
