November 2014: Pre-Hospital Assault News

CA- Paramedic Attacked by Suspect in Hillcrest

A San Diego Fire-Rescue crew got some police backup after a transient attacked a paramedic Wednesday night, San Diego Police say.

Officers responded to 5th Avenue and Washington Street at about 10:11 p.m. when the crew called for help.

It’s unclear what led to the confrontation, but the transient was soon taken into custody on battery charges.

UMass Student Charged with Assaulting EMT

According to Hadley Police, around 2 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to the area of Russell Street to assist Amherst Fire with an unruly person was being transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Man Arrested for Assaulting Firefighter on Medical Scene

Police allege Young approached the firefighter, attempted to punch him, shoved him and grabbed him by the throat, putting his elbow against the man’s throat.  Police allege the firefighter was trying to treat an injured woman when Young interfered.

IN- Man arrested after punching firefighter loading him into ambulance

Hicks continued to curse and be uncooperative once medical responders arrived. Officers noted he had a strong smell of alcohol coming from his body and poor balance when he tried to walk. He was unable to answer basic questions about the date and his current health status, according to the affidavit.

AZ- Medic assaulted after breaking up a fight

The paramedic supervisor was working early Sunday at the corner of Ottawa Avenue and 21st Street, responding to an alcohol-related call. While treating an intoxicated woman on the street, he saw a fight nearby, MD Ambulance detailed in a media release.

MI- Man sentenced for assaulting Firefighters

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’ll be a year behind bars in the Branch County jail for the man charged with attacking Bronson Assistant Fire Chief Kenny Stutzman this summer when a blaze broke out at a home in Matteson Township. 28-year old Aaron Van Vorst was sentenced Monday by Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady, who also ordered two years probation including an electronic tether.

State Police at Liberty Make Arrest in Assault at Catskill Regional Medical Center

On Saturday November 15, 2014 Troopers from the Liberty State Police barracks were called to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris to investigate an assault on hospital staff.

MI- Saginaw patient at Bay County hospital pleads to assaulting security guard

BAY CITY, MI — A Saginaw man no longer faces a 10-year felony on charges he attacked a security guard at a Bay City hospital. Instead, his charge has been reduced to a misdemeanor.

Drunk digs fingernails into nurse taking his vitals

Officers were able to unlock the car doors, but Rivera-Santiago grabbed onto the steering wheel and refused to let go, police said. Officers were able to get him out of the car, and after he was handcuffed Rivera-Santiago kicked an officer in the knee and resisted arrest, records say. The officer needed medical attention for the injury, police said.

Attack leaves psychiatric ward nurse blind in one eye
